The Girl Behind The Wall: Part 1

After reading the previous posts, if you got curious about the girl behind the wall then get off of your horses and get ready for a nice long walk.

One fine summer evening

In the month of May

An angel was born

On the most auspicious day

She wasn’t fond of hospitals

So, she came fast

In her home, in that very room

(With screams and tears, smiles and sighs)

She was welcomed at last

She had big bright eyes

And a pair of broken wings

A cute little smile

Oh! That fragile thing.

When she was just three

To the hospital, she went

To get her wings fixed

But the damage remained forty percent

However, she must enter the world

Her mother was worried

She might get hurt

Therefore, in her mind she sowed a seed

She told her two things

First, that knowledge would get her respect

Hence, she must study hard

That’s how, her broken wings, she should protect

Second, she should be proud of her broken wings

Because there are people who didn’t have them at all

Here begins the story

Of the girl behind the wall

When did she build the wall, she forgot

It was long and wide

Behind it was the person

That she’d always hide

The girl behind the wall

Was a different person

And the one she showed to others

Was a totally different version

What her mother told her

She would always abide

Towards an unknown goal

She would slowly stride

She studied n studied n studied

Till she truly fell in love with it

She made her parents proud

Though she ended up being a misfit

But she never cared about it

Thought that’s how she is supposed to live

Never asking for anything

Living only to give

No one ever talked

About her broken wings

And the fact that they existed

She avoided acknowledging

She thought it was unnecessary

As long as she studied

None of it would matter

So, in an abyss, the fact was buried

She hated causing trouble

Deep down, considered herself a burden

Never wanted to think this way

But society always made it certain

There were limits to her body

That she never embraced

Was hard on herself

That’s how every challenge, she aced

While living quietly and cautiously

The girl, the wings and the wall

She has slowly

Forgotten about them all

Let me take you to the brighter side

There’s not only misery to this story

She was a badass girl

So, ladies and gentleman, don’t you worry

When she worked, she worked damn hard

Earned love and respect

From teachers, family, friends and the rest

Finally, her broken wings, she got to protect

Did I tell you she was upright

Disciplined and strict as hell

She was the ‘captain’ of the class

A+’ in both blood and grades, well,

School was her happy place, her safety net

In there she felt confident

Nice and kind to everyone

She just wanted to feel important

She never got bullied and was grateful for that

Being born this way, to God, she had never complained

Because for her it was never a bane

There was a lot in life, she had gained

Told you, she never really cared much

Thought ignorance is bliss

But everything she had ever ignored

Got stored in an abyss

Into which she fell

When she went on that school trip

Far away from her safety net

She lost her tightened grip

The abyss was dark and cold

Lay there the buried fact

And all that she had ignored

Was perfectly intact

She saw all that had to be seen

Remembered the forgotten things

Then she left the abyss

With her broken wings

On the way back, she found herself

Staring at the rain, with her eyes wet

Found her body, a suffocating place

That was filled with a lot of regret

Now the wall was visible

And the time has come

For the person to meet

The version she has become

To get to know

The girl she really is

She should unlearn first

That ignorance is bliss

Let me tell you, who I was

Said the girl behind the wall

So that you can understand

And accept yourself once and for all

I loved dancing, badminton

And having some fun

Hanging out with friends

Causing trouble that’s worth a ton

I loved to do make up,

dressing up and being fit

To mingle like water does

And having some grit

Forgetting to do homework

And failing that test

Sometimes I also wanted

To do nothing and just rest

To prove everyone that

I was worthy of being born

I did my best

Not to become an object of scorn

She stopped her there

Said we should not wait

We must escape this wall

Before it is too late

Escape was done, what is next

To make it all worthwhile, she must change

But new challenges are on her way

Everything seemed awkward and strange

She still had her books

So, she felt safe and steady

Come what may

She thought she was ready
